Innovation is often associated with what’s new. But at CDS, it starts with something more practical: listening to clients and finding better ways to solve the challenges they face.
In the latest episode of 5 in 5, Michael Milicevic, VP of eDiscovery Products & Solutions at CDS, joins Relativity’s Michael Obregon to explore what drives innovation at CDS and how collaboration with clients, service teams, and Relativity helps turn ideas into solutions that extend the Relativity platform.
From Client Challenge to Practical Solution
For CDS, innovation is closely tied to the realities of client matters. Because Relativity is an open and extensible platform, clients expect solutions that can be adapted to their specific needs. That makes innovation an important part of how CDS serves them.
Milicevic explains how CDS’ service teams play a critical role in that process. Working directly with clients and using solutions on real matters, they help test and validate new tools, identify what works, and provide feedback on what needs to improve. This collaboration helps ensure that innovations are not simply built in isolation, but shaped by practical experience.
eDiscovery Innovation in Action with CDS
The episode explores several examples of that approach, including CDS Vision AI Search Assistant, which uses natural language to help practitioners create and quality-check Relativity dtSearch terms. Users can also upload materials such as a complaint, case memo, or request for production and have the tool generate formatted search terms that can be run in Relativity.
Milicevic also discusses CDS Vision AutoScripts, which was developed with a longtime corporate client to preserve and enhance script-based workflows during a migration to RelativityOne. For him, this represents an ideal form of innovation: working directly with a client to solve a real problem rather than building something in isolation.
Obregon and Milicevic also discuss CDS’ five Relativity Innovation Award submissions this year and what the awards represent beyond recognition. For Milicevic, the real value is seeing how organizations across the Relativity ecosystem are approaching challenges in different ways and sharing ideas that can ultimately help clients.
