ICYMI: Here’s What Happened at Relativity Fest 2024!

Oct 2, 2024

Relativity Fest 2024 has wrapped up, and it was a phenomenal event filled with insightful sessions, thought-provoking discussions, and plenty of networking!

In case you missed it, we wanted to share some highlights featuring our CDS team members who led impactful moments throughout the conference including short message data review, unique journeys into eDiscovery, strategies for managing supply chain risks, as well as the power of influence and partnerships.

Change the Way You Work with Short Message Data

Featuring Mark Anderson, Managing Director, EMEA

Mark’s session centered around the upcoming search and review feature release of RSMF (Relativity Short Message Format) data, showcasing how these new features will streamline investigations and regulatory matters. As part of Relativity’s early access program, CDS has provided key feedback and testing, which is shaping the future of short message data review. Mark also highlighted how CDS Convert is helping clients convert billions of chat messages and generate terabytes of data, making it easier to manage short message data in eDiscovery. He was joined by:

  • Dilan Dubey, Product Manager at Relativity
  • Mike Deuerling, Product Lead at Relativity

The session covered initial slicing, key use cases, and the future of short message data. For more on this topic, check out Mark’s recent Short Message Review blog with Relativity or his recent series on handling Slack data, starting here.

Threading Uniqueness: Diverse Paths to Career Success

Featuring Paola Salazar, Project Manager

Paola shared her unique journey into litigation support, offering a fresh perspective on how diverse backgrounds can bring you to the eDiscovery industry.

“I graduated from art school and realized, wow, I do not want to be an artist. I’m a very analytical person and I knew that about myself. I had to be honest and ask myself, if I’m going to be an artist, can I make money off of my artwork? Do I want to put that kind of pressure on something I love so much?” she said, sharing her introspection. “So I thought, what other marketable skills do I have? Things I learned in school, that weren’t taught in my classes – like project management.” Alongside, Paola, the panel featured:

  • Michelle Six of Gunster served as moderator
  • Elise Tropiano, Director, Product Management at Relativity
  • Jill Rorem, Executive Vice President, Head of eDiscovery and Managed Review at Legalpeople
  • Sunil Shenoi of Kirkland & Ellis

Her story was a reminder that success in eDiscovery comes from embracing diverse experiences and turning them into strengths.

How to Effectively Navigate Supply Chain Risk with Today’s Security and Legal Requirements in Mind

Featuring William Wallace Belt Jr., Esq., Managing Director

Bill delivered powerful insights on managing supply chain risks, emphasizing the critical role of security and legal teams in mitigating vulnerabilities. When considering vendors, he noted, “You want to talk about experience and history – especially when you’re considering vendors, like CDS. It’s a matter of, What is their experience? Who are their clients? Who have they represented? Because that will tell you what industry and regulatory hoops we’ve had to navigate, what protocols and policies we’ve implemented to work with those folks.”

The session also featured:

  • Marcin Swiety, Chief Security Officer at Relativity as the moderator
  • David Horrigan, Discovery Counsel & Legal Education Director at Relativity
  • Jenna Rooney, Director of Client Services | Data Breach at Arete Incident Response
  • Amie Taal of Stratagem Tech Solutions Limited

Bill further noted that phishing attacks are getting more sophisticated, but by knowing what to spot, you can reduce your exposure to risk and help protect your organization. He emphasized that security training can often be the difference between a successful intrusion and maintaining safe operations.

Fest Stage: How To Influence and Drive Impact

Our very own Cory Logan, VP of Client Services, hit the Fest Stage with his topic, Influence to Impact: Persuading Stakeholders for Success. Cory shared strategies for effectively communicating your initiative’s vision to key stakeholders to drive support and organizational success His advice? “Make your initiative future-proof. Start early and often, engage everyone involved in the process, don’t be paralyzed by your drive for perfection, and be willing to pivot.”
