Migrate Less, Control More: What a Well-Run Move to Relativity aiR Looks Like

Oct 19, 2026

Let’s begin with the part no one still on Server can avoid: Relativity Server sunsets on January 1, 2028, and moving is not optional.

Fortunately, because of the Migration Accelerator workflow we’ve built using our proprietary technology, CDS Vision AutoArchive, we know clients will come out ahead on the other side. Rather than another expensive application, AutoArchive is a value-add to clients who want to automate the busywork and cut waste.

To reduce the cost and make the most of your migration to Relativity aiR, we prioritize two things:

Migrate Less. Choose what moves.

In RelativityOne, every gigabyte in your active environment is visible, and you pay for what you keep. Before you move, deciding what comes with you and what doesn’t will save you money downstream.

Our Migration Accelerator workflow makes it easy to choose. Before we migrate a single workspace, we configure AutoArchive to your portfolio, and run it inside your existing Server environment. It monitors database activity and shows you, workspace by workspace, what is active and what has gone dormant. You can check in on matters in real time, or via a schedule sent to your administrators. That reporting gives you the legal data intelligence to triage with confidence: active workspaces marked for Relativity aiR, dormant ones routed to ARM.

AutoArchive then automates the ARM process that moves dormant matters out of the migration path. All of it happens before the migration begins, so your decisions rest on data rather than guesswork. You move less, and you pay less to move it.

We’ve put Migration Accelerator to work on large portfolios. An AmLaw 200 firm came to us with 750 active matters on Relativity Server, facing a move where bringing everything across would have driven their monthly hosting costs sharply higher. We ran AutoArchive on their Server environment before the migration, and it identified more than 250 of those matters – more than one third – as dormant. Those were routed to ARM rather than migrated. As a result, the firm cut its migration costs by 50% and landed in Relativity aiR with a much smaller hosting footprint.

Control More. Set up for savings.

Landing cleanly in Relativity aiR is only the beginning; what can your new environment do for you?

For clients of CDS, AutoArchive keeps adding value after the migration ends. Inside Relativity aiR, it applies the rules-based archiving according to your specifications, moving dormant workspaces out of your active, billable environment on its own, so the savings compound. This approach has resulted in reduced monthly hosting costs, for up to 40% ongoing savings.

Here’s another firm that saw the savings compound. An AmLaw 100 firm was already running more than a thousand active matters in Relativity aiR with no governance process in place. We deployed AutoArchive to manage the portfolio by rule, and within the first ninety days it moved 352 dormant workspaces to cold storage, eliminated hosting charges on 27 terabytes of data, and saved over 330 hours of administrative time. Just as telling, the in-house staff who had spent those hours tracking workspaces were freed for billable client work.

Migration done correctly takes real expertise – scoping, testing, tracking – so the data lands intact and downtime stays low. With CDS, your team comes out more capable in Relativity aiR, and armed with technology that keeps cutting waste automatically, supported by expert client services.

Start migration now, and you can move less, spend less, and stay in control far into your Relativity aiR future. If your matters are still on Server and you want to turn the move into an advantage, reach out to us at .
