At CDS, real results matter—but it’s our people who make the real difference. Real People, Real Results, is a monthly blog series spotlighting the incredible individuals behind the work we do.
Each month, you’ll get to know one of our team members—their journey into eDiscovery, expertise, and a little bit of what makes them, well, them. Because at the end of the day, real results start with real people.
This month, meet Michelle Broxman, a Senior Consultant at Complete Discovery Source. With 15+ years of experience at the intersection of law and technology, Michelle brings a practical legal mindset to eDiscovery strategy—delivering defensible, efficient solutions for firms, corporations, and service providers. A licensed attorney and Relativity Master, she combines deep tool knowledge with a hands-on, client-centered approach across the EDRM lifecycle. Let’s meet Michelle!
How did you land in eDiscovery?
I knew from age 5 that I wanted to be an eDiscovery professional. Just kidding! One of my favorite things about the industry is that since it’s a relatively young field, folks come from many backgrounds. My first introduction to eDiscovery was working as a document review contract attorney. I got interested in learning more, and just never stopped.
How do you explain your career to friends and family?
I explain that when there’s a lawsuit or investigation, the companies or people involved have always been required to exchange information that might be used as evidence. Back in the day it was just file cabinets, but starting a few decades ago, it was electronic information like emails and texts and documents stored on computers – and then everything got a lot more complicated! The industry I work in is called eDiscovery and it’s a cross-section of folks with tech backgrounds and folks with legal backgrounds who facilitate that exchange of info. I work with law firms and corporate legal departments to make eDiscovery as painless as possible..
What’s your approach when a client is overwhelmed by technical complexity?
I do my best to meet clients where they are – none of us were born knowing this stuff! Asking questions, checking in frequently, and modulating the level of details can help make sure the clients I work with have the information they need to move forward.
In some cases that means keeping it simple and focusing on the need-to-know information. In other cases, it’s a trip down “into the weeds” together so they can feel fully comfortable with all the contexts. I’m happy to go down either path, but meeting the client where they are is always the place to start.
What’s a collaboration within CDS that you’ve really enjoyed and why?
One of my favorite parts of my job is training new client admin teams, and one of my favorite parts of that is bringing in colleagues from other parts of the company. This can include our Product team, Advisory Services, Managed Review, and most recently (for me) our Processing team (EDD). Our client admin team members often wear a lot of hats within their organizations, and being able to bring in the right person to answer the super nitty-gritty question is a valuable piece of what CDS brings to the table.
What’s a quote or mantra that inspires you as a professional woman?
“This seems figureoutable.” Some of my most satisfying professional memories started as challenges that seemed impossible or at least unnervingly complex. There are inevitably hurdles along the way, but when the right team, the right tools, and the right attitude are all available, there’s usually a way. It feels awesome to get a project like that over the finish line.
Share some of your favorite pastimes that help you maintain balance.
I have two energetic little kids (a preschooler and a toddler), so their antics keep me busy outside of work and help keep even the most stressful workdays in perspective!
Beyond that, when I want to decompress, I love mobile gaming (especially games about design), reading (mostly contemporary fiction), and listening to podcasts (current events for the main dish, pop culture for dessert).
I’m also a season ticket holder for my local WNBA team and love to watch college and pro women’s basketball games whenever I can!
We’re glad you took to the time to meet Michelle! Look out next month as we highlight more of the real people driving real results at CDS. To learn more about CDS, reach out to us at .
