At CDS, we let the work speak for itself. But behind every result is a team member that made it happen. Real People, Real Results is a monthly series that takes a closer look at the individuals who make up our team, exploring their backgrounds, their expertise, and what drives them.
This month, meet Veronique Tousignant, one of our wonderful Project Managers at CDS.
Veronique brings a rare combination of legal training and hands-on eDiscovery expertise to her work at CDS, and a career path that reflects genuine curiosity and adaptability at every turn. A licensed attorney and graduate of Chicago-Kent College of Law, she passed the Illinois Bar before building her early career in immigration and litigation, developing a sharp eye for detail and a deep respect for the stakes involved in legal work.
Her entry into eDiscovery came through one of the most consequential cases in recent history: the Deepwater Horizon litigation. Working on that matter for an eDiscovery vendor gave Veronique a front-row seat to the complexity and scale that defines high-stakes discovery, and it set the course for the rest of her career.
Since joining CDS in August 2022, Veronique has brought that same combination of legal grounding and real-world eDiscovery experience to her work as a Project Manager, helping clients navigate complex matters with precision and care.
Veronique’s journey, from the courtroom to the Gulf Coast to the eDiscovery world, is a testament to what happens when legal instincts meet operational expertise.
What made you decide to step away from practicing law and move into project management, and how did you know it was the right call?
I don’t know if I would say I made a conscious decision to end up as an eDiscovery Project Manager. I worked as a QA Analyst prior to law school, where I worked with and tested software. I graduated law school during an economic downturn, and I was struggling to find work as an attorney. To make a long story short, I ended up in a non-attorney position in Houston, TX, where I eventually was offered my first eDiscovery position on a large litigation. I thought it was a good fit for me, as a blend of my non-legal technical experience and legal background.
How has your definition of “success” changed since leaving legal practice?
I think success is hard to define. At this point in my life, it’s less about racing to the top or winning, and more about finding things that bring joy, whether that means mastering a hobby or having a family, or something else. Working in eDiscovery can be demanding, but I always appreciated that CDS as a company made an effort to try to give its employees a work/life balance. Success has been more about finding happiness, whether at work or outside of work.
Was there a moment at CDS that made you think “yes, this is exactly where I’m supposed to be”?
This may sound cheesy, but I knew at the time of my interview. I hit it off with the interviewers, and we seemed to be on the same wavelength. I have never had such a good feeling after an interview, and the feeling must have been at least somewhat mutual, as I had a verbal offer later that same day. That feeling has not changed.
What’s something you’re currently trying to get better at?
Analytics – I want to get better at using all the tools at our disposal.
If you could take a month off, how would you spend it?
Probably traveling and reading. Machu Picchu is on my bucket list, maybe I would finally make it there. And I have piles of books to read, maybe I could make a dent in that as well.
Are you a dog person, cat person, or neither?
I’m more of a cat person. I have a 16-year old cat named Howdy. I love dogs as well, but they’re a bit too much work for me!
We’re glad you took to the time to meet Veronique Tousignant! Look out next month as we highlight more of the real people driving real results at CDS. To learn more about CDS, reach out to us .
