At CDS, real results matter—but it’s our people who make the real difference. Real People, Real Results is a monthly series that spotlights the individuals behind our work, giving you a closer look at their journey, expertise, and what drives them.
This month, we bring you Willie Nunez, Director of Client Services. For Willie, leadership in eDiscovery isn’t just about technology, it’s about people, partnerships, and purpose.
Based in California, Willie brings more than 15 years of experience in the eDiscovery industry and a deep understanding of both the technical and strategic sides of litigation support. Over the past eight years at CDS, he’s played a pivotal role in expanding our Managed Services division, designing customized workflows, guiding complex projects, and leading with calm, solutions-focused expertise.
Known for his collaborative style and commitment to service excellence, in this edition, Willie shares how he consistently fosters strong partnerships with clients, helping them navigate the evolving eDiscovery landscape with confidence. Let’s get to know Willie a bit more.
What is your favorite part of working at CDS?
I know it sounds cliché, but it’s truly the people and the culture. The CDS culture is one of collaboration and support across the board. In my nearly eight years here, no matter how complicated the project, there has always been encouragement and teamwork from every department, whether it’s customer service or the executive team.
At CDS, we actively engage with each other, sharing ideas, knowledge, and resources to achieve common goals. That collaboration makes every challenge easier to solve.
What’s the most rewarding client challenge you’ve helped solve?
The most rewarding moments are when I create strong partnerships and build trust across multiple stakeholders.
One impactful project involved coordinating efforts among several law firms and service providers, each with their own priorities and ways of operating. The challenge was aligning these diverse interests and establishing a unified approach focused on the client’s overarching goals.
Through clear communication, active listening, and transparency, I helped foster collaboration among all parties, facilitating discussions, mediating conflicts, and identifying shared objectives. Ultimately, we moved beyond competing processes and created a cooperative working environment where everyone felt heard and committed to a common goal.
It was a powerful reminder that strong partnerships, built on trust and understanding, are essential to overcoming complexity and delivering successful results.
Who’s your favorite superhero?
Fun fact, I’m a huge nerd, so there are far too many to pick from. But if I had to choose one, it’s Batman. He can’t fly, and he doesn’t have superhuman strength or speed, but his real superpower is his will. He proves that if we stay focused, work hard, and persevere, we can succeed, and do it in style.
How do you unwind after a long day?
It might not sound relaxing, but I unwind by training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. When I’m on the mat, I can’t think about anything else, I have to be fully in the moment.
That mindset has carried over into my professional life as well. There’s a saying every practitioner knows: “Be comfortable in the uncomfortable.” In work and in life, difficult situations will always arise. The key is to remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented, even under pressure.
What’s a lesson you’ve learned from working with clients that shaped your approach to your role?
We work in a demanding, fast-paced industry, and clients aren’t looking for order takers, they’re looking for true partners. They’re looking for someone who has their back and they can really lean on.
Anyone can take a request and execute it, but a real partner goes beyond that: understanding the full picture, anticipating needs, and building workflows that make the difficult work easier and more efficient. Be that partner.
What advice would you give those entering the eDiscovery field?
Don’t focus solely on the technology. Of course, technology is central to our industry, but it’s driven by people. By us. Building partnerships and trust with colleagues and clients is equally important.
And always think outside the box. Sometimes innovation doesn’t require new tools. It comes from reimagining how we use the ones we already have.
