Real People, Real Results: Meet Kevin Chacon, Consulting Services Manager

Aug 15, 2025

At CDS, real results matter—but it’s our people who make the real difference. Real People, Real Results, is a monthly blog series spotlighting the incredible individuals behind the work we do.

Each month, you’ll get to know one of our team members—their journey into eDiscovery, expertise, and a little bit of what makes them, well, them. Because at the end of the day, real results start with real people.

This month, meet Kevin Chacon, Consulting Services Manager in our EMEA region. Based in Switzerland, Kevin brings over 20 years of global eDiscovery and legal experience, advising clients on cross-border privacy, data protection, and complex legal processes. He’s managed high-stakes matters across Europe, Asia Pacific, and the U.S., building teams and guiding multinational corporations, financial institutions, and global law firms through critical litigation, investigations, and regulatory challenges.

Now, Kevin shares his journey, insights, and what drives his passion for solving the most complex challenges in the eDiscovery landscape.

How did you find your way into this crazy land of eDiscovery?

My career began in the legal world at a large law firm, long before eDiscovery as we know it existed. Back then, everything was paper… boxes and boxes of paper. Organizing and preparing documents for review was entirely manual.

As the volume of documents grew, so did the need for efficiency. Technology evolved to meet that demand—spreadsheets became databases, databases became large-scale data collections and processing, and eventually we arrived at the advanced eDiscovery platforms we use today.

In a way, I was fortunate to grow alongside the industry itself. That “ground-up” experience has given me a unique, organic understanding of the work—knowledge I still draw on every day.

How do you explain your role and eDiscovery to friends and family?

I try to keep it simple. Something like: I help law firms and global corporations manage their electronic data by advising them on how to best manage, review, and deal with the legal and regulatory requirements and requests they are mandated to follow.

How is eDiscovery different in EMEA vs the US?

In the EU, matters tend to be smaller in scale and often focus on internal and regulatory investigations, rather than the large-scale litigations that are common in the US. Because of that, workflows can also differ, especially when it comes to the review process.

The legal and regulatory requirements also differ. Data privacy is forefront when it comes to accessing and dealing with data, for example, and the use of new technology is more readily accepted.

That said, our EU clients are increasingly embracing advanced technology, including active learning and AI tools, to drive more efficient and targeted reviews.

What’s a trend in eDiscovery that excites you?

The obvious answer is of course the practical integration of AI—especially active learning and generative AI into review workflows. We’ve moved past the stage of simply talking about AI’s potential, and we’re now seeing real-world adoption that’s delivering measurable efficiency gains.

For example, active learning is helping teams focus review efforts on the most relevant documents earlier in the process, while generative AI is assisting with summarizing complex content and even suggesting coding decisions based on prior patterns.

As the technology matures, I think we’ll see eDiscovery become more intelligent, more predictive, and ultimately much more efficient in every aspect.

What’s your approach when a client is overwhelmed by technical complexity?

I break the issue down into the simplest possible terms, often using analogies that make the unfamiliar relatable. Then I walk them through the process step-by-step, answering questions as we go. The goal is to remove the mystery and build confidence in their understanding.

What advice would you give those entering the eDiscovery field?

eDiscovery covers a vast range of data types, technologies, and workflows—it can be overwhelming to try to learn it all at once. My advice is to start with the fundamentals: understand the core concepts, processes, and terminology first. Once you have a strong foundation, you can layer on technical knowledge and specialization over time.

We’re glad you took to the time to meet Kevin! Look out next month as we highlight more of the real people driving real results at CDS. To learn more about CDS, reach out to us at .
